Rat problems in the Amsterdam region
In central Amsterdam, rats mostly appear along the canals and through ageing sewers; in Amstelveen and the post-war neighbourhoods it usually comes down to crawl spaces and broken sewer connections. Brown rats follow water and food, and a single open joint in the brickwork, a gap behind the meter cupboard or a broken sewer valve is enough for them to get in. If you spot a rat during the day, there is almost always a nest nearby.
That is why we never start with poison straight away. First we trace the access route, seal it off, and only then deal with the animals themselves. That order is the difference between an infestation that stays gone and one that simply returns after three weeks. For urgent problems in Amsterdam or Amstelveen, we are often at your door the same day.
